City Moves Forward On Memorial Arena!

City council is taking control of the fate of the Memorial Arena!

During strategic planning discussions Friday, council agreed to strike a sub-committee to investigate future uses of the downtown arena. The move came roughly one month after the arena was shut down due to equipment failure resulting in uncertainty over the arena's future.

The city had already indicated this would be the last season of use for the arena -- causing some public outcry -- and had indicated it was open to suggestions on what to do with the historic building.  "I think it's time for us to drive this process," Mayor Neil Ellis said. "We need to give (director of recreation, culture and community services) Mark (Fluhrer) some direction. If a group can't come out and use it as an arena then what's next?"  Read on...
